Wolverhampton offers a feast of All-Weather action on Saturday, March 13, with a nine-race programme featuring the Listed Bombardier Lady Wulfruna Stakes as well as two class two handicaps.
The seven-furlong Bombardier Lady Wulfruna Stakes (2.05pm) is the final Fast-Track Qualifier for the Bombardier All-Weather Mile Championship at Lingfield Park on Finals Day, Good Friday, April 2.
Last year’s runner-up Documenting (Kevin Frost/Ben Curtis) enjoyed a productive 2020 campaign. After winning at York in July, he captured class two handicaps at Ascot in September and Lingfield Park in October.
The eight-year-old has been off the track since finishing third behind Highland Dress (Archie Watson/Kieran Shoemark), who reopposes, in a seven-furlong conditions race at Lingfield Park on November 21.
Trainer Kevin Frost said today: “Documenting ran a little flat last time at Lingfield. We have freshened him up with this race in mind and he has come back great.
“He just failed to catch Urban Icon last year and ran out of track basically. It looks a competitive race once again and I think he will get a good pace to aim at with the likes of Highland Dress and Lord Of The Lodge in there.
“A fast-run seven furlongs suits Documenting down to the ground and hopefully he can sit in behind and come with a good run up the straight.
“I would imagine he will head for the Mile race on Good Friday. Ray Dawson won on him at Lingfield last year and was adamant that, if ridden properly, he would get a mile around there."
Ryan Moore and Richard Hannon combined to win last year’s Bombardier Lady Wulfruna Stakes with Urban Icon. They team up again with Mums Tipple, who showed promise when an unlucky sixth in the Listed Betway Kachy Stakes at Lingfield Park on February 6.
Former Simon & Ed Crisford-trained runner Ostilio (Kevin Stott) makes his second appearance for Paul Midgley. Ostilio has a 3lb penalty following his win in the Listed Guisborough Stakes at Redcar in October, his final start before joining Midgley.
Godolphin has an interesting contender in Raaeb (Saeed bin Suroor/Callum Shepherd). The lightly raced four-year-old was last seen out a year ago when second in the Listed Ladbrokes Spring Cup at Lingfield Park.
Front runner Lord Of The Lodge (Karl Burke/Clifford Lee), who contested the G1 July Cup last year, steps back up in class after going down by a head in a competitive handicap at Newcastle on February 23.
Shimmering Dawn (James Tate/Tom Eaves) is one of two fillies and mares in the field alongside Belle Anglaise (Stuart Williams/Sean Levey). Shimmering Dawn captured a fillies & mares Fast-Track Qualifier at Chelmsford City last month.
Ghaith (David Loughnane/Richard Kingscote), who was runner-up on his latest start in a class two handicap at Kempton Park, also lines up.
A maximum field of 13 goes in the Bombardier British-Hopped Amber Beer Lincoln Trial Handicap (2.40pm) over an extended mile. The weights are headed by Oh This Is Us (Richard Hannon/Luke Catton (7)), winner of the All-Weather Mile Championship on Good Friday in 2019.
Mission Boy (Marco Botti/Ryan Moore) was narrowly beaten in the 2019 G2 Derby Italiano and came home an eye-catching fourth behind Born To Be Alive (Karl Burke/Clifford Lee) in a class two handicap at Kempton Park on February 3.
Stewards’ Cup victor Summerghand (David O’Meara/Adam Kirby) shoulders top weight in the Betway Handicap (3.15pm, 6f, eight runners). Summerghand was beaten a neck into third in a similar contest over the course and distance on March 1.
