Chapple-Hyam's Hopes For Internationalangel At Lingfield

Fast Track Qualifiers

Internationalangel bids to continue her excellent record on the All-Weather in the talkSPORT EBF Fleur De Lys Fillies' Stakes (4.00pm), one of two Listed races for fillies and mares at Lingfield Park on Thursday, October 27.

In addition, the mile contest is a Fast-Track Qualifier for the £150,000 Fillies & Mares Championships on Finals Day.

Internationalangel was a revelation on the All-Weather last winter for Jane Chapple-Hyam, winning five handicaps before ending the season with a second to Highfield Princess in the Fillies & Mares Championships.

The five-year-old has since filled the runner-up spot in three Stakes races on the turf, most notably going down by a head to Oscula in the G3 Oak Tree Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

Chapple-Hyam said: “Internationalangel is switching back to the All-Weather after a good turf campaign and she seems in really good order.

“She has been knocking on the door in Group races, whether it be at Goodwood or Deauville, and her fourth behind Pogo in the Challenge Stakes was another solid run.

“I would give her a really strong chance based on that form and hopefully she can pick up some more black type.

“The plan is for her to race on next year. She is the first horse Mr [Laurence] Holder has owned and, given how well she is running, we both feel why not enjoy the ride and keep her in training.

“Mr Holder’s other horse Meishar is running later on the card. He is just feeling his way and getting into the groove of it. He won four times at Dundalk before joining me, so the left-handed track should be fine but he has never run downhill before. We are hopeful.”

Oscula sets the standard in the talkSPORT EBF Fleur De Lys Fillies' Stakes with a rating of 107, a pound ahead of Internationalangel, although George Boughey’s filly has a 5lb penalty for G3 wins at Goodwood and Deauville.

Progressive three-year-olds Queen Aminatu and Crystal Caprice, representing William Haggas and Sir Michael Stoute respectively, both proved themselves at this level with placed efforts at Ascot and Newmarket last time out.

Roman Mist finished second in this race last year and subsequently provided trainer Tom Ward with his first Listed success in the Snowdrop Stakes at Kempton Park in April.

Snooze N You Lose and Improvised bring in further Listed form, having finished first and second in the Queen Of Scots Stakes at Musselburgh in June.

John Gosden has won two of the last three editions, including with subsequent G2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes scorer Indie Angel in 2020. Gosden and his son Thady saddle Juddmonte filly Crenelle.

Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum’s colours were carried to victory by Maamora 12 months ago and the owner bids for a repeat win with lightly raced four-year-old Mobadra, a two-time All-Weather winner for Roger Varian.

Ffion, a last-time-out winner in handicap company at Chester, Isola Rossa and Rosemary And Thyme complete the 12 runners.

Goodwood Listed scorer Bartzella aims to build on William Haggas’ excellent recent record in the Listed talkSPORT EBF River Eden Stakes (3.25pm) over 13 furlongs.

The Newmarket trainer has won three of the last five runnings, with last year’s impressive winner Sea La Rosa enjoying a stellar campaign on the turf which culminated in G1 success at Longchamp earlier this month.

Twice-raced Kempton Park winner One Evening heads three runners for John & Thady Gosden. The daughter of Galileo is joined by stable-mates Pennymoor, who has only been seen out once since chasing home Sea La Rosa last year, and the impeccably bred Darmoiselle.

Other leading contenders include G3 Pinnacle Stakes runner-up Viola and Pearl Beach, who was third in Newcastle’s G3 Hoppings Stakes in June.
