With less than two weeks remaining of this season’s All-Weather Championships, the race to be crowned Winning Most Horse is finely poised with six horses on five wins.
Hampshire trainer Robyn Brisland has his eyes set on the £10,000 prize with fast-improving sprinter Power Over Me.
Having raced three times in Ireland for Michael O’Callaghan and Johnny Murtagh, Power Over Me made a successful debut for Brisland in a six-furlong maiden at Chelmsford City on January 14.
The four-year-old has followed up with four handicap wins from five starts at Lingfield Park and Wolverhampton, most recently taking a class three event by two lengths on March 20.
Power Over Me’s latest success at Wolverhampton was achieved off an official BHA rating of 85, 26lb higher than his opening mark in January.
Brisland said today: “Power Over Me is fine. He always comes out of his races really well – all he likes to do is eat and sleep!
“It was another step forward from him at the weekend. I haven’t spoken to the handicapper yet about what he is going to do, but I am sure he will have his say.
“I think at the moment the horse is thriving. It was an impressive win and shows that he has come on again from his last run.
“We have liked Power Over Me from day one. His work has always been good – and I think he will be even better on the turf.
“We would be keen to go for the sixth win if we can. We would already be there but for him finishing third at Lingfield at the end of January, which was a bit unlucky as that was his fourth race in 16 days.
“There is a possibility he could sneak into the Betway Sprint Championship on Good Friday, although off the top of my head I believe there is one more race for him before then as well.
“We will see what the handicapper does and then go from there.”
Power Over Me is currently tied on five wins with Caribeno (Sir Mark Prescott), Khatm (George Boughey), Nortonthorpe Boy (Phil McEntee), Spring Romance (Mick Appleby) and Uzincso (John Butler).
In the event of a tie, the Winning Most Horse title will be decided on placed efforts.
