CAPTAIN JOY AND GLASTONBURY SONG CLASH IN FTQ AT DUNDALK

Fast Track Qualifiers
|

11 January 2018

All-Weather stalwart Captain Joy takes on five rivals in the €25,000 Sun BETS Race (6.30pm) on Polytrack at Dundalk, Ireland, tomorrow, Friday, January 12. The winner of the mile Fast-Track Qualifier is guaranteed a free start in the £150,000 Sun Bets All-Weather Mile Championships on Polytrack at Lingfield Park on All-Weather Championships Finals Day, Good Friday, March 30. Captain Joy (Tracey Collins/Pat Smullen), victorious in the 2016 Sun Bets All-Weather Mile Championships, has been lightly-raced since that success and returned from a three-month break last time out to finish sixth in a mile handicap at Dundalk on December 8. The nine-year-old has won nine of his 20 starts on the All-Weather and finished in the placings on four other occasions. Captain Joy renews his rivalry with Glastonbury Song (Ger Lyons/Colin Keane), who finished second in the mile handicap at Dundalk on December 8. Prior to that, Glastonbury Song was two from two at Dundalk and, on turf, finished fourth behind Churchill in the G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh in May. Tracey Collins said today: "Captain Joy is well and has definitely come on from his last run. He is getting that bit older and things are not as easy for him. "Ger Lyons' horse Glastonbury Song is obviously a lot younger and I would prefer it if he wasn't in the race! But my lad we will be doing his best and hopefully can put it up to him. "Hopefully, tomorrow will be his last run before Good Friday but, if he doesn't win, we will have to get one more run into him." Beach Bar (Richard O'Brien/Wayne Lordan) and Geological (Damian English/Rory Cleary) also reoppose, having finished first and second in a seven-furlong handicap at Dundalk on December 22. Course and distance scorer Secret Wizard (Sheila Lavery/Gary Carroll) and 10-year-old Russian Soul (Mick Halford/Conor Hoban), a dual G3 winner over six furlongs in his pomp, complete the field. Dundalk's eight-race card starts at 5.00pm and ends at 8.30pm
